Record scholarship awards unlock the potential of student members to build bright futures

Virginia Beach, VA (June 30, 2025) – Chartway is proud to announce the recipients of its 2025 Directors’ Memorial Scholarship. This year, 12 student members have each been awarded $4,000—$1,000 more than last year—for a total of $48,000 in financial aid for 2025, marking the largest amount awarded in program history. Since its inception in 1989, the credit union’s Directors’ Memorial Scholarship program has awarded more than $628,000 to high school seniors, college students, and graduate student members seeking financial support to pursue higher education. This year’s recipients were selected based on need, grades, involvement, and two essays:

  • Maria Ashimi, (VA) – Old Dominion University, Nursing
  • Janaya Belcher, (VA) – Norfolk State University, Master of Public Health
  • Karmandi Burdk, (GA) – Georgia Highlands College, B.S. Dental Hygiene
  • Robert Cason, (VA) – George Mason University, Accounting
  • Rachelle Chappell, (VA) – Norfolk State University, Exercise Science
  • Hannah Dyal, (UT) – Bingham High School, Biomedical Engineering
  • Genesis Facey, (VA) – Norfolk State University, Informative Technology
  • Zachary Gatchalian, (VA) – Oscar F. Smith High School, Electrical Engineering
  • Naomi Lopez, (UT) – Ensign Peak Academy, Finance
  • Jennifer Ortiz, (UT) – East High School, Nursing
  • Paige Stoddard, (UT) – Crimson Cliffs High School, Nursing
  • Myah Yancey, (VA) – Old Dominion University, Dance Education

Chartway also awards $25,000 annually to Old Dominion University’s Athletic Scholarship fund, provides $10,000 in ESL (English as a Second Language) scholarships to students at Salt Lake Community College, manages a top-rated paid summer internship program, provides free financial wellness programs to members, and offers multiple products and services specifically for student members.
